LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Providence rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to beat Siena 61-58 Friday night in the season opener for both teams in front of a crowd of nearly 1500 at the Alumni Recreation Center.

The Friars (1-0) opened the second half on a 12-3 run to erase most of a 30-20 Siena halftime lead. Chrissy Vozab scored 12 of her 17 points in the second half to spark the rally. The 5-7 guard also had eight rebounds to lead the Friars. Keisha Blackwell and Ryann Kilgore each added 11.

Gunta Basko (Olaine, Latvia/Riga Secondary #3) led Siena (0-1) with 22 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists. She shot eight of 11 from the field. Mary McKissack (Detroit, Mich./Communication and Arts) was the only other scorer in double figures with 10 points.

Siena outrebounded the much-larger Friars 44-38 but shot just 37 percent from the field and two of 14 from outside the arc. Both teams had trouble holding onto the ball as Providence turned it over 28 times and Siena had 24 turnovers.

Siena returns to action on Tuesday when the Saints host America East favorite Vermont in the ARC at 7:00 p.m.
