Laura Gonsalves led all scorers with 16 points as Team Concept rolled to a 77-54 victory over Siena College this evening. Nine different Saints managed to put numbers up on the board in an exhibition game against a team that featured four WNBA players.
Team Concept jumped out to a ten-point lead in the first ten minutes of the game. The Green and Gold went on a run closing the gap to just four with a 22-26 score on a pair of foul shots by Nathalie Marchino with just a little over six minutes remaining in the first half. The run was short-lived, however, as Team Concept managed regain their sizable lead, this time building it up to as many as 16 as the first half came to a close.
Although Team Concept continued to keep the Saints at a distance, Siena held their own, scoring thirty second-half points, while keeping Team Concept to just 37. Michelle Blot scored 12 of her team-high15 points in the second half, sinking three consecutive treys over a one and a half minute span. Blot finished connecting on five of seven three's.
Three Saints finished in double figures as Liene Jansone and Trish Lyons each poured in 10 points a piece. Jansone also added team-high eight rebounds for the Green and Gold. In her collegiate debut, Naimah Abdullah went three for four from the floor and added seven points for the Saints while collecting three rebounds.
Siena shot just 30.9 percent from the floor compared to the 54.4 percent managed by Team Concept.
The Saints will open up their regular season play on Friday, November 21, at the Pepsi Arena when they take on Albany in a doubleheader with the men's team. Game-time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
