LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Propelled by one of their best halves of basketball all season long, the Saints rolled Rider 57-44 Monday night at Alumni Gymnasium. Cristina Centeno poured in 19 points and Maja Gerlyng added 14 as the Saints swept Rider, winning their eighth in a row over the Broncs.
Siena (10-14, 8-6) came out firing on all cylinders in the opening half, closing the stanza on a 31-6 run to take a commanding 20-point lead, 35-15 at halftime. The Saints' defense made the difference, swiping nine steals and forcing 17 Rider (3-22, 3-11) turnovers in the half. Siena converted those opportunities into a 17-0 edge for the half in points off turnovers.
In the second half, the Saints struggled at times, but Rider never got any closer than the final margin of 13.
Centeno added a season-high six assists, while Gerlyng scored 12 of her 14 in the first half.
The MAAC's leading scorer Serena Moore, who entered the evening needing eight points for 1,000 in her career, scored just four points in 18 foul plagued minutes. She did however reject two shots, making her the seventh player in program history with 100 career blocks.
MyNeshia McKenzie paced Rider with a career-high 21 points and 10 rebounds while Caitlin Bopp added nine points and 10 rebounds.
The Saints return to action Saturday at Saint Peter's in a 2 p.m. tip-off from Jersey City.
