Liene Jansone led Siena with 22 points in an 85-60 victory over Rider University at the Alumni Recreation Center Wednesday night. With the win the Saints improve to 17-6 on the season and 10-3 in the MAAC, while the Broncs drop to 6-15 overall and 1-11 in league play.
After a couple of lead changes in the opening five minutes of play, the Saints took the lead for good in the first half on a layup by Jansone. Siena went ahead by as many as ten points courtesy of a 17-7 run, but had their lead cut to just one at the 3:04 mark on a three pointer by Katie Hall. The Saints then held the Broncs to just two points during the remaining three minutes, while scoring 15 of their own, to take a 41-32 advantage into the intermission.
Siena broke out in the second, dominating play and pouring in 44 points while limiting Rider to just 28 to take the 85-60 victory.
Gunta Basko and Erica Anderson joined Jansone in double figure scoring. Basko had 14 points and dished out five assists while Anderson went 4 for 9 from the arc, finishing the night with 16 points while adding a game-high six assists.
Sherron Burgess grabbed a game- and career-high 10 rebounds on the night for Siena.
Becky Hower scored a team-high 14 points for the Broncs while Leanne Moore chipped in 12. Melanie James led Rider in rebounds with eight.
Siena shot 44.4 percent from the field compared to just 38.3 percent for Rider. The Saints also managed a commanding 50-28 edge in team rebounding.
The Saints return to MAAC action on Saturday at Saint Peter's. Game-time is set for 2 p.m.
