JERSEY CITY, NJ - Siena Women’s Basketball remains undefeated in overtime games this season and extended their win streak to five games with a 62-59 (OT) win over Saint Peter’s on Thursday. Joella Gibson had a career-high 17 points with 10 from the free throw line to push the Saints to victory.
D’Aviyon Magazine led Saint Peter’s (4-18, 1-10) with 13 points, while Brianna Tarabocchia and Zoe Pero added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Siena took a four-point advantage early in overtime but it was quickly erased by the Peacocks. Sims hit the go-ahead layup following a steal by Scarbrough, 60-59 with just 13 seconds on the clock. Pero missed the layup on the other end and the Peacocks fouled Scarbrough, who hit both free throws to give Siena the 62-59 victory and 15th straight win against Saint Peter’s.
Adding onto a 5-0 run to end the third quarter, Saint Peter’s jumped ahead 48-40 in the final frame. The Saints continued to chip away at the lead and with one free-throw made by Gibson with 48 seconds left both were tied up at 53. The Peacocks went on a 12-0 run in the second quarter to take their largest lead of the game, 26-14, but the Saints would connect on the following possessions and trail by just six. Saint Peter’s led 28-21 at the half.
It was a slow start for Siena as the Peacocks jumped ahead 10-4 to start the game, but as if foreshadowing the conclusion the game would be tied at 14 following one quarter played. The Peacocks connected on six from behind the arc, their most since they had seven against Fairleigh Dickinson University on December 21.
The Saints will travel to face MAAC rival Marist on Saturday, February 3 to continue with a two-game road trip. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
