Liene Jansone posted 24 points and eight rebounds, and Erica Anderson tallied 15 points and seven assists to lead Siena College (14-5, 7-2, MAAC) to an 88-57 victory over Canisius College (10-9, 5-5 MAAC) in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's basketball action at the Koessler Athletic Center Thursday night.
The Saints capitalized on a season-high 26 Canisius turnovers to shoot 54.9 percent from the field. Siena posted 27 assists on 39 made field goals. The Golden Griffins shot 36.7 percent from the floor and 26.7 percent from three-point range.
Junior Jenel Stevens led Canisius with 13 points and 14 rebounds, her 11th double-double of the season. Jes Butler collected 14 points and five rebounds.
The Griffs took a 2-0 lead on a pair of Stevens free throws before Siena went on a 25-6 run, capped by an Anderson jumper to make the margin 25-8 with 10:26 remaining in the first half. The Saints never looked back, taking a 49-21 lead into halftime. The margin grew to as many as 35 points in the second half as a Michelle Blot free throw put Siena ahead 78-43 with 5:31 to play.
12 different Saints scored as the team recorded a season-high 88 points. Siena also shot a season-high 54.9 percent from the floor.
Siena will return to action on Saturday, February 1 when they take on Niagara University. Game-time is set for 7:00 p.m.
