Liene Jansone led all scorers with 22 points, helping Siena to a 67-55 win over Fairfield University at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Connecticut. With the win the Saints improve to 13-5 overall and 6-2 in the MAAC, while the Stags fall to 4-13 on the season and 2-6 in conference play.
After a brief 2-2 tie in the opening minutes of the game, Siena took the lead for good at the 17:52 mark of the first half. Fairfield made several attempts throughout the game to rally, but never managed to catch up to the Saints.
Gunta Basko was the only other Saint to score in double figures as she finished with 18 points while adding eight rebounds and a game-high five assists.
Janelle McManus led Fairfield, netting 13 points. Ivana Podrug and Yvette Rutherford chipped in 10 points apiece.
Siena shot 41.8 percent from the floor while Fairfield made 40.7 percent of their shots. The Saints outrebounded the Stags 37-31. Both teams were plauged by turnovers as Siena had 20 and Fairfield threw the ball away 24 times.
The Saints will return to action on Thursday, January 30 when they travel to face Canisius. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
