FAIRFIELD, CONN. - Brittany Obi-Tabot scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half, rallying Fairfield past Siena 50-43 at Alumni Hall. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Saints, while the Stags have won five straight and seven of eight.
Reigning MAAC Player of the Week Lily Grenci led Siena (7-11, 3-4) with a hard-earned double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Tehresa Coles added nine points and five steals for the Saints which shot just 30.4% (14-46) from the field.
Siena never trailed in the first half and led 21-20 at the break. But Fairfield (12-6, 6-1) opened the second on an 11-4 run to reclaim the lead and never trailed again.
The MAAC's top scoring defense team, Fairfield put the clamps on the Saints in the second half especially inside. The Stags starting frontcourt outscored that of Siena's 27-16 and shot a combined 10-17, while the Saints' was just 5-19.
Obi-Tabot capped an 8-1 run with a layup, giving Fairfield its largest lead of the game at 10 - 39-29 with 6:12 remaining. The Saints battled back with a 10-2 run of their own to pull within a basket, 41-39 on a Grenci jumper with 2:41 remaining, but could get no closer as the Stags salted away their fifth straight win over Siena.
Obi-Tabot shot 5-6 from the field and added three blocks, while frontcourt mate Katie Cizynski joined her in double figures with 10 points.
The Saints return to action Monday night when they travel to perennial MAAC Champion Marist. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
