Gunta Basko led Siena with 22 points as the Saints (12-5,5-2) defeated the Purple Eagles (12-5,6-2) 70-63.
The first half was neck and neck for the first 15 minutes of play as neither team led by more than five points during that span. After a 24-24 tie at the 5:04 mark, the Saints managed to pull away from the Purple Eagles, capturing the largest lead of the half with an 8-0 run to take a 32-24 lead into halftime.
The Saints kept Niagara at a distance for much of the second half before the Purple Eagles cut the Siena lead to just four points with 40 seconds remaining in the game. Niagara was then forced to foul and pulled to within three off a missed foul shot by the Saints. Siena went on to knock down four of four from the foul line and take a 70-63 victory.
Seven different Saints put numbers up on the board. Basko ended the night with a double-double, pulling in 14 rebounds in addition to her 22 points. She also had a team- and game-high eight assists. Erica Anderson was the only other Saint to score in double figures as she netted 18 points, including four of Siena's five three pointers.
Eva Cunnigham led all scorers and the Purple Eagles with 25 points. Jessica Kemp added 10 for Niagara.
Siena shot 45.8 percent (22-48) from the floor while Niagara made 34.4 percent (21-61) of their shots. The Saints outrebounded the Purple Eagles 36-32.
Siena will next travel to Fairfield University on Sunday, January 26. Tip off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
