Balanced Saints Extend Nation's Fifth-Longest Win Streak

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena closed the first half on a 17-4 run and cruised past Marist 79-51 Wednesday night in the ARC. The win was Siena's largest of the year and extended the nation's fifth-longest winning streak to 11 games in a row.

Nathalie Marchino (Geneva, Switzerland/Dewitt Clinton) scored seven straight points during the decisive run that put the Saints up at the half 37-17. Marchino finished with a career-high 14 points.

Siena (11-3/6-0 MAAC) held Marist (8-8/4-3 MAAC) to just 24 percent shooting in the first half and 30 percent overall. Siena shot 50 percent overall, including 64 percent in the second half. The Saints outrebounded the Red Foxes 43-32.

The Saints won despite an off game from Gunta Basko (Olaine, Latvia/Riga Secondary #3), who scored just 10 points in 17 minutes. The nation's fifth-leading rebounder had her streak of double-doubles snapped at six games.

Five Saints scored in double-figures, led by Erica Anderson's (N. Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) 15 points, including three of three from outside the arc. Liene Jansone (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary #45) added 14 points and five rebounds. Jolene Johnston (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) posted 13 points and seven boards.

Diesa Seidel was the only Red Fox in double figures with 24 points and nine rebounds. Nina Vecchio finished with eight assists.

Siena won its 21st game in a row against MAAC opponents-the second-longest such streak in the nation. Officially, Louisiana Tech has won 69 straight conference games.

The Saints go for number 22 on Friday against Rider. Tipoff in Lawrenceville, N.J. is set for 7:00 p.m.
