The Siena athletic department recently named Jolene Johnston (Clifton Park, N.Y.) women's basketball assistant coach. Johnston served the last two years as an assistant coach at UAlbany.
At Siena, Johnston will have administrative duties including team travel, film exchange and will be the Co-Director of the program's summer camps. She will also recruit and have on-floor coaching responsibilities.
"We are thrilled to have Jolene Johnston back in our basketball program," said head coach Gina Castelli. "As a player Jolene brought intensity, passion, skill and tremendous leadership to our program. We all knew back then that she would be a great coach. With her coaching experience at UAlbany and her Siena experience, Jolene is very prepared and we could not be more excited to welcome her home."
Johnston '04 started 68 games and tied the school record with 121 appearances during her four year career. She averaged eight points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Johnston is sixth in school history in free throw percentage with 79.4% and tenth in total rebounds with 519 boards.
In 2003-04, Johnston was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and selected to the MAAC First Team. She won four regular-season MAAC Titles (2000-2004) and a MAAC Championship in 2001.
