Castleberry comes to Loudonville after a four-year stint as a men's assistant coach at his alma mater, the Virginia Military Institute. "I am beyond excited that Coach Castleberry has joined our staff," said Jaques. "His passion for the game of basketball and desire to be a great coach are evident to anyone who meets him. The experience he had while coaching on the men's side in an up-tempo, high scoring offense at VMI will bring fresh ideas to our program. He is a proven recruiter and winner and I know he will help our program reach new heights." Castleberry brings five years of Division I coaching experience to Loudonville. He began his coaching career as an assistant at Tennessee-Martin during the 2007-08 season before returning to his alma mater at VMI from 2008-12. VMI won 69 games during his tenure and made a pair of appearances in the Big South Championship game. In his four years with the Keydets, Castleberry was responsible for a wide variety of duties including monitoring the team's academic progress and assisting with scheduling, recruiting and travel. Castleberry played a key role in instituting VMI's famed up-tempo, high scoring offense which led the nation in scoring in each of his first three seasons. VMI twice led the nation in three pointers per game (2008-10) while also leading the country in both steals per game and turnover margin during the 2008-09 season when the Keydets won 24 games - the second highest total in program history - including a 111-103 victory at Rupp Arena over Kentucky. While at Tennessee-Martin, Castleberry helped guide the Skyhawks to a 17-16 overall record and mentored two-time Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and 2009 Second Round NBA draft pick Lester Hudson who currently plays for the Memphis Grizzlies. Castleberry appeared in 93 games including 31 starts for VMI from 2003-07. During his senior season, he served as team captain and led the Keydets to their winningest season in a decade and first conference tournament final in 20 years. For his efforts, he was bestowed with the "Spirit of VMI Award" for his leadership, toughness and hustle. A native of Virginia Beach, Va., Castleberry earned his degree in Economics and Business from VMI in May 2007. |
