The ITA Northeast Regional Championship kicked off on Yale’s home courts in New Haven, Connecticut on Wednesday with qualifying singles action. Siena freshman Sagar Bains and sophomores Cameron L. Kirkwood along with Matt Bellino earned their spot in the main draws for singles and doubles, respectively.
Bains played Yale’s Alan Sou who had to earn his way into the tournament by taking down Colgate’s Noah Rosenblat 6-3, 6-4 followed by Army’s David Mitchell 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 in the qualifying round. When facing Yale’s Sou, Bains was unable to come out with the victory and fell 6-3, 6-3.
Kirkwood and Bellino took on Peter Litsky and Jacob Walker of Brown. The pair fell in the doubles match 8-1.
Up next for the men’s team is Wagner on Saturday, October 28 in Staten Island. The match is set for 2 p.m.
