The Siena College men's and women's tennis seasons began Thursday afternoon with setbacks at the College of the Holy Cross. The Crusaders topped the Siena men 5-2 and the women 4-2.
John Michalisin and Ed Roessler picked up straight-set victories at #2 and #3 singles for the two men's points. Michalisin defeated Nick Casolaro 4 and 2, while Roesller earned a 2 and 1 victory over Kenton Allen. Holy Cross was paced by Brian Kelly's 2 and 1 victory over Siena's Nick Julia at top singles and a 2-1 win in the three doubles matches.
Sophomore Denisa Hluchova was the lone winner in singles competition for the Siena women, winning her match 1 and 3 at #3 singles. The Saints also picked up the doubles point, as Hluchova teamed with senior Andrea Disponzio in a spirited 9-8 (7-5) triumph at top doubles.
The Siena women will next be in action at home against Vermont on September 23. The men return to the court Saturday at Binghamton.
