LATHAM, N.Y. - Siena Men’s Tennis fell 7-0 to league rival Marist on Sunday night at TriCity. The Saints fall to 2-4 in league play.
Alessandro Saglia and Guillermo Lopez Torres came out swinging at doubles one. After taking a 3-0 lead in the match, Marist came back and won the next two, but Siena was able to hold on and take a 6-3 win. However, the Red Foxes would take doubles two and three with 6-2 wins to clinch the doubles point.
Marist quickly jumped ahead to a 2-0 lead and Lopez Torres battled on court one but fell 6-3, 6-4 to give the Red Foxes a 3-0 lead. Right as the Saints fell on court one, Sagar Bains fell at court two as Marist clinched the match. Muhammad Raza Sawani battled at singles three bringing the first set to a tiebreaker, but it would not be enough as the freshman fell 7-6 (5), 6-2. Cameron L. Kirkwood then fell in straight sets at singles five. Matt Bellino came out strong in the second set after falling 6-1, but Marist was able to come back and take the second set 6-4 for the 7-0 sweep.
Siena will host Fairfield in their regular season finale on Saturday, April 21 at Central Park in Schenectady, New York. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
