Loyola and Siena split the six singles matches, but the Greyhounds swept doubles play to eek out a 4-3 MAAC win Saturday in Schenectady. Alex Burbine, Eric Sumanaru and Darren Reisch each won their singles contests for the Saints.
The match began with doubles play, and two of three contests were hotly contested. Loyola edged Siena in tiebreakers at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, to take a 1-0 lead in the match. That point proved critical as Siena played one of its best matches of the season and nearly pulled a major upset.
Alex Burbine defeated Connor Pietrak in three sets at No. 3 singles and Sumanaru also went the distance at No. 4 singles to pick up a hard-fought win for Siena.
Bobby Gorczakowski's 7-5, 7-6 (8-6) win over Ryan Schmitz at top singles proved key for the Greyhounds.
The Saints wrap up their home season Sunday against St. Francis (Pa.) at Central Park at 10 a.m. It's the final home match for seniors Vik Kadaba and Dylan Roberts.
