The Siena men's tennis team dropped a difficult 4-3 decision at Sacred Heart Sunday. The Saints took the doubles point, but the Pioneers rallied to win four of six singles competitions to claim the match.
Ryan Schmitz and Peter Collins teamed for an exciting 6-5 (7-5) win at top doubles and Eric Sumanaru and Alex Burbine registered a 6-5 (7-4) win at No. 2 doubles to get the Saints (3-5) off to a fast start.
Schmitz defeated Brian Power 6-2 and 6-4 at top singles and Darren Reisch won a super-tiebreaker over Luka Bagi at No. 5 singles, but Sacred Heart won the other four contests. Third and fourth singles were each decided in a third set. Matt Dean rallied to defeat Burbine after dropping the first set, and Sumanaru took the first set in a tiebreaker before losing the next two.
