LATHAM, N.Y - Siena Men’s Tennis fell 7-0 to Colgate on Friday night at TriCity. The Saints fell to 3-5 on the season, while Colgate improved to 4-2.
Muhammad Raza Sawani and Guillermo Lopez Torres gave the Saints the advantage in doubles taking a 6-4 win at doubles one. However, despite a hard-fought battle at both doubles two and three both Saints duos, of Alessandro Saglia and Matt Bellino at two and Geovanny Mendoza and Cameron L. Kirkwood at three, fell 7-5. The Raiders led 1-0 heading into singles play.
Saliga and Kirkwood both fell in straight sets at respective singles courts of six and four to push Colgate ahead 3-0. Bellino fell 6-1 in the first set, but came right back into it and won the second set to force a third. During the tiebreaker the two continued to battle, but Bellino would fall 13-11.
Lopez Torres took the first set at singles one, but Jacob Daugherty would take the next two to help the Raiders improve to 5-0 in the match. Raza Sawani also forced a third set after winning the second, but fell 6-4 in the final set. Mendoza put up a battle after falling 6-0 in the first set. He came back strong taking the second set 7-6 (7-5) to force a third set. However, he would fall 10-0 in the tiebreaker as Colgate completed the sweep.
Siena will travel to take on Sacred Heart on Saturday, February 10 at 4 p.m.
