LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - For the first time in program history, Siena Soccer had three players named to the NSCAA All-North Atlantic Region Team. Senior striker Sindre Ek was a First Team selection, while captains James Beeston and Jannis Opalka were named to the Third Team.
Twice previously the Saints had a pair of student athletes named All-Region. In 1989, Carlos Duran and Steve Shuhet earned honors, while Steve Covino and Emery Welshman were recognized in 2010.
The MAAC Offensive Player of the Year, Ek finished the season ranked eighth nationally in points per game (1.71) and 12th in goals per game (0.71). He tied for the MAAC lead in both scoring (29) and game-winning goals (four) and was second in goals scored (12).
A First Team All-MAAC selection, Beeston led the MAAC and ranked 30th nationally with eight assists. He will enter his senior season next fall just five assists shy of breaking the program's all-time record.
Opalka was named to the All-MAAC Second Team after anchoring the Saints' center backfield. One of just 30 candidates nationally earlier this fall for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, he was also recently named a Capital One Academic All-District selection.
Siena recently finished one of the most productive seasons in program history with a 10-7 overall record and placed second in the MAAC with a 6-1 conference mark.
