LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Soccer freshman goalkeeper Josh Weiss has been named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for a second straight week. The Hicksville, N.Y. native posted a 2-1 record with a 0.94 goals against average, an .850 save percentage and 17 saves in three matches last week for the Saints.
Weiss made three saves in Tuesday's 5-1 win over Sacred Heart. Over the weekend he continued to excel in goal in the Saints' matches on the West Coast in the Henson/Zaher Nike Classic against Oregon State and Portland which were both receiving Top-25 votes.
On Friday, he made a pair of saves in the Saints' narrow 1-0 loss at the Beavers. Sunday he stopped a season-high 12 shots including three in extra time as the Saints beat Portland 2-1 in double overtime. For his efforts over the weekend, Weiss was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Weiss previously was named both the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week and ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week last week. For the season, he holds a 5-1 overall record with a 0.65 goals against average, .871 save percentage, 27 saves and two shutouts.
Weiss and the Saints continue their season long six-match road trip this weekend at the CU Inaria Classic. Siena is at Cornell Friday (7 p.m.) and at Colgate Sunday (2 p.m.).
