Seniors Steve Skonieczny and Joey Tavernese and sophomore Jannis Opalka were named captains by Siena head coach Gareth Elliott Monday afternoon.
Skonieczny posted two shutouts in three starts last season. A two-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection, he has appeared in 40 games during his career and has 185 saves.
Tavernese appeared in all 19 games last season and showed versatility at both outside midfield and forward. He scored three goals and led the team with five assists.
Opalka was an imposing presence on defense his rookie season. He started all 14 games he appeared in and earned MAAC All-Rookie Team and Siena College Male Rookie of the Year honors. He was named MAAC Student Athlete of the Week earlier today.
Siena opens the 2010 season at Syracuse on Wednesday evening.
