Siena Soccer Picked Sixth in MAAC Preseason Poll

Senior Nathan Olukanmi is the Saints' top returning scorer from last year when he tallied nine points and scored two game-winning goals

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Soccer was picked sixth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, as voted on by the conference's 11 head coaches. The Saints welcome 13 newcomers to the program this fall and return six starters and 17 letterwinners from last year's team which posted a 7-10-1 overall record and finished tied for sixth in the MAAC with a 3-6-1 league mark.

Last year's MAAC runner-up Monmouth is the coaches' preseason prediction to win the league in 2014. The Hawks received 112 points including five first place votes to top defending MAAC Champion Quinnipiac which was selected second in the poll with 101 points and two first place votes.

Iona (98) was selected a close third, with Fairfield (90) and Manhattan (64) rounding out the top-five. The Saints were picked just behind the Jaspers, receiving 62 points, and were followed by Canisius (57), Rider (49), Marist (35), Niagara (32) and Saint Peter's (26).

Ignacio Maganto was tabbed the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year for Iona which tied Quinnipiac for the most Preseason All-MAAC selections on the 11-member team with three apiece.

The Saints kick off their 2014 season exactly one month from today when they host LaSalle at Siena Turf Field on Sunday, August 31st for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
