LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Soccer Head Coach Gareth Elliott has released his program's schedule for this coming fall. The Saints will play an 18-game regular season slate which includes eight matches at Siena Turf Field.
"We are excited for the challenging schedule that lies ahead this fall," remarked Elliott. "Our opening games in Florida should prove a great test for our team at an early point in the season. We look forward to seeing our team develop over the course of the year with an emphasis on being prepared for conference play."
The Saints will compete in a pair of regular season tournaments, beginning with the Mike Gibbs Memorial Tournament to open the season in Jacksonville, Fla. The 2012 slate commences with a match at North Florida on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. with the tournament concluding on Aug. 26 with a matchup at Jacksonville.
Two weeks later, the Saints will partake in the Brown Soccer Classic in Providence, R.I. The Green and Gold will matchup with both Fordham (Sept. 7) and Cleveland State (Sept. 9) over the weekend.
Of their nine non-conference games, two others will take place on the road. The Saints return north to face Buffalo Sept. 2 before concluding out-of-conference action Sept. 30 at St. Bonaventure.
After beginning the season with five games away from home, Siena hosts its home opener Saturday, Sept. 15 against Hartford at 3 p.m. The match kicks off a three-game homestand and a stretch where the Saints will play eight of their following 11 games at Siena Turf Field.
Other non-conference home games include dates with UMass (Sept. 19) and UAlbany (Sept. 23).
MAAC action begins Oct. 5 when the Saints welcome Saint Peter's to Loudonville. With an unbalanced nine-game conference schedule, Siena will enjoy a majority of five of those games being played in the Capital Region.
Additional conference home games will come against Manhattan (Oct. 7), Niagara (Oct. 19), Canisius (Oct. 21) and Marist (Oct. 27). The game against the Red Foxes marks the regular season home finale and will serve as the Saints' Senior Day prior to the 3 p.m. kickoff.
On the road, the Saints will visit Rider (Oct. 12), Loyola (Oct. 14), Iona (Nov. 2) and defending MAAC Champion Fairfield (Nov. 4) in MAAC action.
The top-four teams will qualify for the MAAC Championships which will be held Nov. 9-11 at Loyola's Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore, Md.
