LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Men's Soccer's Jannis Opalka continues to collect major honors both on and off the field. The Stade, Germany native has been named an NSCAA Scholar All-American, one of three major awards earned by the junior back. Opalka was also named to the NSCAA's Scholar All-East Region First Team and All-North Atlantic Third Team.

Opalka, who was named to the University Division's Third Team, was one of just 68 student athletes nationally and the only MAAC individual to earn Scholar All-America honors.

On the field Opalka anchored the Saints' center back last fall, appearing in and starting 17 games while dishing out two assists. Under Opalka's guidance, the Saints tied a program single-season record by allowing just 16 total goals and ranked 34th nationally with a 0.89 goals against average.

In the classroom, Opalka has equally excelled where he currently boasts a 3.94 GPA while majoring in marketing.

These three honors are just the latest in a long list of accomplishments for Opalka during the 2011 season. Recently, he was named a Capital One Academic All-District I First Team selection and MAAC Second Team honoree in addition to being named to the conference's All-Academic Team.

Additionally, last summer Opalka was the MAAC's Male Nominee for the NCAA Sportsmanship Award.
