LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Despite outshooting Canisius 19-5, Siena was unable to find the back of the net in losing to the Golden Griffins 2-0 Friday afternoon at chilly Siena College.

Canisius (4-11, 2-4 MAAC) broke through during a scramble in front of the net in the 33rd minute. Kevin Silakowski eventually controlled the ball and beat Siena goalie Jonathan Hicks (Merrick, N.Y./Merrick).

Siena (3-8-3, 3-1-2 MAAC) dominated the start of the second half and the Saints peppered Canisius goalie C.J. Keller with shots, but Keller was up to the task, making one outstanding save after another. The Golden Griffins put another goal on the board in the 55th minute when Al Franjoine served a long ball and Ryan Dummett got around Hicks at the top of the box and put the ball in the net.

Keller made nine saves in the shutout victory. Hicks stopped a pair of shots for the Saints.

The loss is Siena's first in conference play. The Saints can continue their quest for the MAAC Tournament on Sunday when Siena hosts Niagara at 1:00 p.m.
