The Siena men's soccer team fell to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Manhattan College 4-1 this afternoon in Riverdale, N.Y. With the loss the Saints fall to 6-10-1 overall and 5-2-1 in league play.
Manhattan scored the first goal of the afternoon a little over 22 minutes into the first half for the 1-0 lead. The Jaspers took that advantage into halftime.
The Saints struck back just about six minutes into play in the second half as Paul Ciovacco netted a penalty kick to knot the score at one apiece.
It was all Manhattan from then on however as the Jaspers went on a 3-0 scoring run to clinch the MAAC victory.
The Saints held a commanding 19-5 advantage on shots, but only managed to convert on one occasion. Manhattan made good on four of their total five shots fired for the win.
Siena keeper Patrick Henry made one save for the Saints while Manhattan net minder Collin Leaver had nine stops for the Jaspers.
The Saints will face St. Peter's College in their final regular season game of 2003 on Sunday. With a win, the Green and Gold will clinch the MAAC regular season championship. Game-time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
