Men's Soccer Battles to 1-1 Double Overtime

Junior T. J. Helly scored the Saints lone goal of the game as Siena men's soccer battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie with Saint Peter's Peacocks, Friday afternoon in Loudonville, N.Y.

The tie brings Siena's record to 1-10-5 overall and 1-3-2 in the MAAC, while Saint Peter's record goes to 7-3-1 overall, and 4-1-1 against conference opponents. The Saint's have recorded a school record of 10 overtime with eight being played in double-overtime.

Freshman Murphy Wiredu gave the Peacocks a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute with his eighth goal of the season. The play developed off a double pass from teammates Douglas Narvaez and Sylvers Owusu and Murphy knocked it in for the score.

Defense specialist, Helly scored the equalizer in the 86th minute, a 15-yard shot to the far post. The Joe Vitale was credited with the assist.

Siena sophomore goalkeeper Patrick Henry made seven saves on 14 shots from Saint Peter's, while Peacocks keeper Pat Nagawiecki tallied six saves on 16 Saints shots. Junior Sean Kelly and Vitale led Siena with four shots, while Michael Battiste had two.

Siena, who has played in five double overtimes in its last six matches, will next face Manhattan, Sunday, Oct. 31, at 1 p.m.
