Caio Silva netted the only goal of the game to lift the Siena College Saints to a 1-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory over the Fairfield University Stags this afternoon at Siena Field in Loudonville, N.Y. With the win the Saints improve to 5-9-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the league, while the Stags, who came into the game atop the conference standings, drop to 7-6-2 on the season and 5-3-0 in the MAAC.
Silva scored his gamewinner at the 74:39 mark of the second half as he rocketed the ball into the upper right hand corner of the net after receiving a pass from Sean Thompson.
The Stags had their opportunities to put one away, but were unable to finish on the afternoon. They outshot the Saints 11-7.
Patrick Henry came up big for Siena yet again, making five saves in goal for the Saints while recording the shutout. Fairfield keeper Andrew Frankel had two stops for the Stags.
The Saints will return to action this Sunday as they host Iona College on Senior Day and the final home game of the season. Game-time is set for 1:00 p.m.
