LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Senior captain Matt Hemsley tallied a goal and an assist as Siena Soccer bounced back with a key 2-0 MAAC shutout of Iona. Red-shirt junior goalkeeper Adam Myers made a career-high seven saves to post his third clean sheet of the season.
In a physical affair which featured seven yellow cards and 29 fouls between the two teams, the over-aggressiveness would ultimately cost Iona (5-6-2, 2-2-1).
In the 74th minute the Gaels were whistled for a foul in the box. Hemsley would take and convert the penalty kick to give the Saints (6-6, 2-2) the late lead.
With the win, Siena is now unbeaten in its past eight MAAC home matches (7-0-1) and has outscored its conference foes 14-3 over that time.
The Saints head to Fairfield - site of this year's MAAC Championship - Wednesday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
