Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Marist
Oct. 16, 2004
Robert VanDyke's overtime goal gave Marist a 1-0 victory over Siena in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon. The Marist win gave Siena its first MAAC loss of the season. It marked the seventh overtime game the Saints have played in this season, and the fifth time a game has gone into a double-overtime session.
VanDyke placed the ball to the left of the diving Patrick Henry, who had spectacularly saved six shots in a losing effort for Siena.
In a scoreless, balanced first-half Siena (1-7-4/1-1-1 MAAC) held a 5-4 advantage in shots and missed a golden chance to take an early lead when Joe Vitale's header hit the post at the 12:23 minute mark.
Just under four minutes into the second overtime period, the Saints failed to clear their own box and Marist intercepted an errant pass. VanDyke finished a pass from Kyle Nunes to give the Red Foxes the key conference victory.
Marist out-shot Siena 11-10, the Saints held a 6-5 advantage in corners.
Siena plays Lafayette at home on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
