JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Paul Ciovacco had a goal and an assist and Kevin Purcell scored twice to lead Siena over St. Peter's 3-2 Sunday afternoon. The win was the Saints (4-6-1, 3-2 MAAC) third in a row and moved the Green and Gold into a tie for third-place in the conference.
Ciovacco (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) connected on a pass from Joe Vitale (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) to open the scoring for Siena in the 12th minute. Purcell (Albany, NY/Guilderland) put the Saints up 2-0 in the 22nd minute after John Witkiewicz (Wappingers Falls, NY/Regis) fed him a pass.
Purcell scored what proved to be the game winner less than twenty seconds later, he was assisted by Ciovacco.
In Siena's 3-0 week, Ciovacco scored four goals and added an assist to move into seventh in the MAAC scoring leaders. With 14 points this year, Ciovacco has moved into eighth-place all-time on Siena's scoring list. He is tied for third with 12 career assists.
Eric Murdakhaev (Queens, NY/Forest Hills (St. John's) scored his first goal of the season for the Peacocks to put them within one in the 71st minute.
Jonathan Hicks (Merrick, NY/Chaminade) made 10 saves in the win. Siena plays at regional power Massachusetts on Tuesday.
