Alejandro Vazquez scored what proved to be the gamewinner to give Siena a 2-1 win over University of Buffalo on Friday night at RAC Field. The victory was the first for the Saints this season and they now stand at 1-5 overall.
A late goal by junior defender Cheick Diarra (Hillsborough, NJ/John Bartram) pulled the Bulls to within one, but UB was unable to tack on another to avoid the loss.
C.J. Melilli opened the scoring 29 minutes into the game, heading in a pass from Joe Vitale. Alejandro Vazquez doubled the Saints' lead early in the second half, scoring on a rebound from five yards out.
Diarra put Buffalo on the board in the 84th minute when he headed in a shot off a rebound, picking up his first goal of the season.
UB freshman goalkeeper Brandon Foley (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) finished with two saves, as did Saints' goalkeeper Patrick Henry.
Each team also finished with 15 overall shots.
