Siena surrendered a goal in overtime and could not answer, as the University of Albany held on for a hard-fought 1-0 win on Friday in men's soccer action.
Siena outshot Albany 15-13 with six of the shots coming on goal. Albany goalie Bouna Coundoul turned in a strong performance for the Great Danes, recording six saves. Senior midfielder, Tom Santoro (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) led the Saints with four shots, followed by sophomore Michael Battiste (Niskayuna, NY) and senior Joe Vitale (Scotia, N.Y) with three, respectively
The game-winning tally and the only score of the game came at 97:36 in overtime. Yan Gbolo crossed through the Siena defense after taking a diagonal cross from Eric Zekiroski who was credited with the assist on the play.
Senior Patrick Henry (LaGrangeville, N.Y) was in goal for the Saints and recorded one save.
Siena (0-2) returns to action at home on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Buffalo.
