The Siena men's soccer team dropped a hard fought decision at Oneonta, 2-0, in their season opener today. Jerry Manneh headed a ball into the back of the net on a Derek Silverman cross in the game's 88th minute with what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
Siena controlled a statistical advantage in every category save the final score. The Saints raked in eight corner kicks to Oneonta's three and out-shot the Red Dragons 20-to-11. Timothy Melia recorded 12 saves for the Red Dragons.
Goalie Patrick Henry (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) recorded three saves in a losing effort for Siena. Caio Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) led the Saints with five shots.
Following Menneh's goal with under three minutes remaining, Leon Lopez scored an insurance goal with gust over a minute left to account for the final 2-0 tally.
In the contest four yellow cards were issued with three handed to the Saints.
The Saints return to action Friday at the University of Albany with kick off set for 4 pm.
