Junior George Friedman scored what proved to be the gamewinner for the Red Dragons, lifting Oneonta State University (2-0) to a 2-1 victory over Siena College (0-1) in the Saints' season opener at Siena Field in Loudonville, N.Y.

Alejandro Vazquez (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh Free Academy) got his head on a ball that John Witkiewicz (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Regis) sent soaring into the center of the cage for the first goal of the afternoon only 2:32 into the first half. The Saints took the 1-0 advantage into halftime.

Oneonta State finally got on the board at the 66:38 mark in the second half on a goal by Odingo Ridley to tie it up at one apiece. Friedman scored his gamewinner some three minutes later and despite several attempts by the Saints to knot the score once more, the Red Dragons held on to the one-goal lead for the eventual victory. In his collegiate debut, freshman Patrick Henry (LaGrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) made five saves in the net for the Saints, while Jack Potter came up with three stops for the Red Dragons.

The Saints will travel to face Army on Monday, September 8. Game-time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
