2013 Siena Lacrosse Schedule
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The 15-game 2013 Siena Lacrosse schedule was released Monday afternoon. The Saints will host eight games this spring at Siena Turf Field in addition to key non-conference road contests at perennial national powers Johns Hopkins and Cornell.
"We always want to play the best competition possible and this year's schedule will be extremely challenging," said head coach John Svec who enters his second season at the helm. "Our non-conference schedule will prepare us well for our crucial MAAC schedule."
Siena opens the season Feb. 8 with a nationally televised game on ESPNU at Johns Hopkins for a fourth straight year. The Blue Jays, which finished last season ranked seventh nationally in both the USILA Coaches' Poll and Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll, are one of two 2012 NCAA Tournament teams the Saints will face in non-conference action.
The other is Stony Brook whom the Saints will travel to Mar. 5. The Seawolves and Blue Jays are two of four teams the Saints will play in 2013 that finished last season nationally ranked. Siena will also face-off with St. John's (No. 20 in final Nike/Inside Lacrosse Media Poll) Mar. 2 in Loudonville and travel to Cornell (No. 17 USILA/No. 16 Nike/IL) Mar. 26.
"I am excited to open the season against Johns Hopkins and also play some other nationally recognized competition," added Svec. "Playing teams of that caliber will prepare us for a conference schedule that continues to get more competitive each year."
The Saints open a season long three-game homestand when they welcome Hobart to Siena Turf Field for the home opener Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2:30 p.m. Siena then hosts Binghamton (Feb. 23) and St. John's.
Other non-conference home games include perennial America East contenders Hartford (Mar. 9) and crosstown rival UAlbany (Apr. 23).
In addition to Johns Hopkins, Stony Brook and Cornell, the Saints will also travel to Big East foe Providence (Mar. 23) in an extremely challenging non-conference road schedule.
The six-game MAAC slate faces off Mar. 16 at Jacksonville. A rematch of last year's MAAC Championship game with Canisius (Apr. 6) and Marist (Apr. 20) are the Saints' other conference road tilts.
At home, Siena will face Manhattan (Mar. 30), Detroit (Apr. 13) and VMI (Apr. 27) in MAAC action.
The 2013 MAAC Championships will be hosted by Canisius College at the Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, N.Y. May 3-5. Siena has captured the MAAC Title each of the past two times the conference tournament has been held in Buffalo.
The Saints posted an 11-5 record last spring, winning the MAAC Regular Season Championship for the fifth time in the past six years.
