LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Men's Lacrosse Head Coach John Svec has announced his team captains for the upcoming 2013 season. Red-shirt junior Mike Battaglia and seniors Erik Casparius, Danny Martinsen and Collin Parkhurst have been selected to lead the team this spring.
"I am thrilled to have four young men with the level of character, enthusiasm and leadership of Mike, Erik, Danny and Collin," said Svec. "We have a great group of seniors and these four exemplify what it is to be a student athlete here at Siena College."
A local product from Loudonville, Battaglia took a medical red-shirt last season. In 33 career games on defense he has picked up 32 groundballs and caused 14 turnovers.
Casparius, who hails from Portland, Maine, earned a starting spot on defense last season and did not disappoint. He played in and started all 16 games, ranking third on the team with 40 groundballs and tied for second with 16 caused turnovers.
A First Team All-MAAC selection this spring, Martinsen ranked 14th nationally in scoring and 17th in assists. A native of Smithtown, N.Y., he amassed 62 points on 33 goals and 29 assists and will carry a 33-game point scoring streak into next season.
Parkhurst, who hails from Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., is a two-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection. He appeared in all 16 games last spring in which he made one start and totaled six points.
The quad captains lead a Siena Lacrosse program coming off an 11-5 season this spring in which the Saints won the MAAC Regular Season Championship and advanced to the conference championship game.
