Craig McDonald Joins Men's Lacrosse Coaching Staff
Aug. 6, 2010
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Craig McDonald was recently hired as an assistant coach for the Siena men's lacrosse team. He will be responsible for coaching the defense, recruiting and assist in the day-to-day operations of the program. "I am very excited to have Craig join the Siena lacrosse staff as I have known him both as a player and coach over my six years here," head coach Brian Brecht said. "Craig was a standout defenseman at UAlbany and worked with legendary coach Paul Wehrum over at Union College the past two seasons. Craig has a great defensive mind and work ethic as a young professional and will be a welcome addition to our program." McDonald coached at Union College in 2009 and 2010. Under his direction, the Union defense ranked second in the Liberty League and in the top-30 in Division III last season. He also coached the man-down unit which held opponents to a conversion percentage of 12.4%. McDonald played four years of lacrosse at UAlbany, winning two America East Championships. He was a two-time All-American East Conference selection and a 2008 Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America Honorable Mention pick. During his junior season, he helped lead the Great Danes to a school record in wins, and the team was ranked as high as No. 2 in the country. That squad made the school's first appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals. McDonald graduated from UAlbany with a B.S. in sociology with an education minor.
