LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Former Siena lacrosse player Matt Walsh '06 will play for Ireland in the 2010 FIL (Federation of International Lacrosse) World Championships from July 15-24 in Manchester, England. This year's World Championships will be the biggest to date with 30 countries represented.

Walsh (Northport, N.Y./Northport), who played for Siena from 2003-06, ranks eighth on the school's all-time scoring list with 144 points. He was the first Scholar All-American in program history and is a three-time All-MAAC selection.

Ireland plays South Korea (July 16), Slovakia (July 17) and Switzerland (July 18) in pool play before the medal round.

All of the tournament's games will be streamed live at http://www.247.tv/lacrosse/fil-world-lacrosse-championships-2010/

In the previous World Championships, in Canada in 2006, Ireland won five of seven games, finishing in 7th place among 21 teams. Canada defeated the United States 15-10 in the championship game.

Walsh is eligible to play for Ireland because he lived there for more than two years and played in its club league, coached and taught clinics. That qualifies him for a non-passport spot on the team. The team can have up to 15% of its roster as non-passport holders.
