Siena goalie Brent Herbst '10 became the first player in program history to be drafted when he was selected by the Long Island Lizards with the 22nd overall pick in the 2010 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft Sunday evening at Yale University.

He was the second goalie taken in the 2010 draft, behind only Notre Dame's Scott Rodgers.

"This is a great opportunity and I'm excited to get the chance to play for Long Island," Herbst said after the draft. "I wasn't ready for my career to end."

Herbst (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) played in the 2010 Warrior Major League Lacrosse Challenge hours before the draft at the Yale Bowl. The MLL College All-Stars defeated Team USA, 12-11. Herbst made seven saves and allowed three goals in 12 minutes.

Herbst, a two-time All-American, is the first player from the MAAC Lacrosse League ever drafted by the MLL.

"This is a testament to how much the MAAC has grown and how much parity there is in college lacrosse," Herbst said.

If Herbst makes Long Island's travel roster he would play against Chicago in a neutral-site game at John Fallon Field in Albany this Saturday.
