Herbst Named USILA Scholar All-American
May 26, 2010
Just one day after being one of only four goalies selected to play in the prestigious North/South All-Star game, Siena goalie Brent Herbst '10 was one of 70 student-athletes recognized by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association as a 2010 Scholar All-American. He is the only selection from a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference school. Herbst (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) graduated in May with a 3.0 GPA in American Studies. On the field, he enjoyed one of the great lacrosse careers in program history. Herbst had a 7.89 goals against average and a .594 save percentage in 17 games this past season. He had a 12-4 record and led the Saints to their second consecutive undefeated regular season MAAC championship. Herbst won MAAC Defensive Player of the Year and earned MAAC First Team honors for the first time in his career. Herbst was named All-American Honorable Mention in 2009 after he led Siena to its first MAAC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance in program history. He was named a 2010 Preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse and to the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List. He was a 2010 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist. Herbst joins Matt Walsh '06 as the only Siena men's lacrosse players to be named Scholar All-Americans.
