LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - For the fourth straight season Siena Lacrosse will be represented in the prestigious USILA/Lax World Division I/II North/South Senior All-Star Game. Danny Martinsen and Matt Sharp will compete in the 72nd edition of the event Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Edith Robb Dixon Field on the campus of Cabrini College in Radnor, Pa.
Martinsen and Sharp are the sixth and seventh players in program history to play in the prestigious North/South Game joining Tony Asterino (1981), Brent Herbst (2010), John Rogener (2011), Duncan Seale (2011) and Bryan Neufeld (2012).
A Second Team All-MAAC and MAAC All-Tournament Team selection, Martinsen ranked ninth in the conference with 38 points this spring. An attackman and team captain from Smithtown, N.Y., Martinsen finished his collegiate career with 167 points placing him sixth on the program's all-time scoring list. He was a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award and was also named to the Tewaraaton Award Watch List.
A native of Winchester, Mass., Sharp secured the starting goalie nod this spring and did not disappoint. A two-time MAAC Defensive Player of the Week, Sharp ranks 11th nationally averaging 12.69 saves per game. He posted an 8-8 record between the pipes with an 11.20 goals against average and .537 save percentage.
The North/South Game, which features the top Division I and II seniors in the country, was first played in 1940 and has been played every year since with the exception of 1944 and 1945.
