LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Lacrosse's Richie Hurley has been named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week and Tommy Cordts the Defensive Player of the Week. The duo helped rally the Saints from a five-goal second half deficit to post an 11-10 win in quadruple overtime over Hartford Saturday.
The nation's eighth leading scorer, Hurley scored all of his game-high five points after halftime. The red-shirt junior captain posted his third hat trick of the season and added two assists while picking up a season-high four groundballs. Hurley scored three or more points in all five games during Siena's season-opening road trip and is averaging 4.8 points per game.
Named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, Cordts made a career-high 16 saves stopping 61.5% of the shots he faced. The red-shirt sophomore stopped 14 of the Hawks' final 18 shots on goal over the last 60 minutes and his final save - a point blank stop late in the fourth and final overtime - led to a successful clear and the game-winning sudden victory goal.
After spending the first month of the season on the road, the Saints finally return to the Capital Region Wednesday to open a four-game homestand marking the squad's only games this season at Siena Turf Field. Siena hosts Robert Morris at 3 p.m. in a game that will be televised throughout New York on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
