Syracuse Eliminates Siena in Dome
Tom Morr and the Saints kept things interesting for a while Sunday night, but in the end top-ranked Syracuse was simply too much to overcome. The Orange ended Siena's season with a nationally-televised 10-4 victory at the Carrier Dome in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
2013 National Finalist Syracuse enters the season as the top ranked team in the nation in the first USILA Coaches' Poll and second in the Warrior Media Poll. This is the third time that Siena will play the nation's top ranked team with all three games coming here at the Carrier Dome against the Orange.
It also marks the Saints' third all-time meeting against Syracuse, with the previous two matchups coming here at the Carrier Dome in the NCAA Tournament. Top ranked Syracuse defeated the Saints 10-4 in the 2009 NCAA Tournament and 11-4 again in the First Round in 2011.
Siena is 2-13 all-time against USILA Top-20 ranked opponents with wins at then No. 16 Loyola in 2008 and last season against 10th ranked UAlbany at Siena Turf Field.
The preseason favorites to win the MAAC, Siena returns five starters and 35 letterwinners from last year's squad which went 8-9 overall and advanced to the MAAC Championship Game for a fifth consecutive season. The Saints welcome back nine of their top scorers and 84.8% of the teams scoring from a year ago for an offense which ranked 17th nationally averaging 11.3 goals per game.
