LOUDONVILLE, NY - Siena Men’s Lacrosse Head Coach John Svec has announced the 2018 schedule. The 13-game slate consists of six home contests and four games against teams that were in the Inside Lacrosse Top-20 or receiving votes in the final rankings.
The Saints open their 54th varsity season at a neutral site game in Victor, New York against Hobart. The Statesmen went 5-1 during conference play last season and fell in the NEC Championship game to Bryant. The Saints and Hobart will faceoff on Saturday, February 17 at 2 p.m. Siena will be looking for victory as the Statesmen edged the Saints by just one goal last season, 16-15.
Siena will then host UMass Lowell for the home opener at Siena Turf Field on Saturday, February 24 at 1 p.m. The River Hawks were also seen on the Saints schedule last season with UMass Lowell coming away with the victory.
The Saints will then face a new opponent when they travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan and take on Big Ten contender Michigan on Saturday, March 3. Siena will take on the Wolverines in their new U-M Lacrosse Stadium which is opening this season. The Saints remain on the road and head to St. John’s for a matchup on Saturday, March 10 at 1 p.m.
Returning back to the Capital District, Siena hosts NCAA tournament participant Bryant on Tuesday, March 13 at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs were ranked #19 in the final Inside Lacrosse poll and #25 in the Inside Lacrosse Yearbook preseason rankings. Bryant is the reigning NEC Championship and faced #1 Maryland in the NCAA First Round last season taking a 13-10 loss.
Siena opens up MAAC play at Quinnipiac on Saturday, March 17 before coming back home to host Canisius on March 24 at 1 p.m. The Saints took down both the Bobcats and Golden Griffs last season.
Binghamton will host Siena on Tuesday, March 27. The Bearcats received votes in the final Inside Lacrosse rankings after falling to UAlbany in the America East Championship game.
The Saints then have a season-long three-game homestand beginning with reigning MAAC Championship Monmouth (Mar. 31). The Hawks were undefeated in league play last season and received votes in the final Inside Lacrosse rankings. Siena will then host league rival Marist (Apr. 7). In their final home game of the season, the Saints will host their second new opponent of 2018 in Princeton. The Tigers received votes in the final Inside Lacrosse rankings last season.
To close out the regular season, the Saints travel to Detroit Mercy (Apr. 21) and Manhattan (Apr. 27). The MAAC Tournament will take place in West Long Branch, New Jersey from May 4-May 6. Only the top-four teams in the league make it to the tournament.
