Marist scored three goals in the final minute to complete a 6-5 comeback over Siena Men’s Lacrosse. Chris Robertson became the 27th member of the Siena Lacrosse 100-Point Club.
The Red Foxes (9-5, 4-2 MAAC) had six different goal scorers in the victory. Brian Corrigan recorded 11 saves for Marist.
The scoring was slow to start but the game was intense from first faceoff. Ponsetti came up with some big saves early in the contest, he had five saves and allowed no goals in the first quarter. Goals by Robertson and Tokar put the Saints up 2-0 after 15 minutes of play.
The Saints were able to keep the Red Foxes at bay for most of the second quarter. Kyle Quinn was able to put it in the cage and put Marist behind the Saints 2-1. Robertson picked up his second goal with a look from Jordan Barlow to give the Saints a 3-1 lead which they held onto as they headed into the locker room at halftime.
Robertson completed the hat-trick and continued to keep the Saints in the lead 4-1. At the end of the third quarter, Ponsetti had recorded 14 saves and let up just one goal to keep the Saints ahead.
Mike Reilly tacked on a goal quickly to start the fourth quarter and Siena led 5-1. But Marist was just getting started on their comeback. Joe Tierney and Gannon Morrison scored back-to-back goals to cut the Saints lead 5-3. It was a back-and-forth battle and with under a minute left the Red Foxes were able to put three on goal to take the 6-5 win over Siena.
The Saints season comes to an end with a 3-3 MAAC record that put them fifth and just out of the MAAC Tournament.
