Men's Lacrosse Oultasts Wagner, 9-8

The Siena College men's lacrosse team held on to take a 9-8 win over Wagner College this afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Wagner College Stadium. The win was the second-straight for the Saints (2-9, 1-6 MAAC) and the first in league play. The loss dropped the Seahawks to 1-10 on the season and 1-5 in the conference.
Wagner jumped out to a 3-1 advantage through the first ten minutes of action when, after Siena's Matthew Walsh (Northport, NY) scored the first goal of the game, the Seahawks notched three consecutive goals by sophomore Kevin Zulauf (Lincoln Park, NJ), freshman Mike Sciamanna (Beverly, MA) and Zulauf again.
The Saints scored two quick goals in the final 16 seconds of the first quarter to tie the game at 3-3 when Walsh had an unassisted goal before Daniel Wolpert (Yorktown Heights, NY) tallied after taking a pass from Peter Green (Cazenovia, NY).
Wagner senior Sean Hennessey (Staten Island, NY) ripped home a goal to give the Seahawks a 4-3 advantage after taking an assist from Zulauf with three minutes remaining in the second quarter.
Wagner outscored the Saints 2-1 in the third quarter to take a 6-4 lead. The Seahawks sandwiched two markers by freshman Josh Hamilton (Millersville, MD) and sophomore Tom Marchetti (Washington, D.C.) around a Siena goal by Wolpert.
The difference was the fourth quarter when the Saints outscored Wagner 5-2. Wolpert scored for Siena and Zulauf tallied his third goal of the game for Wagner as the Seahawks took a 7-5 bulge.
The Saints scored three straight goals over a minute stretch on Wolpert, junior Eric Morrissey (Somers, NY) and Walsh markers to take an 8-7 advantage with 5:56 to play in regulation.
Wagner senior James Servidio (Staten Island, NY) drilled a shot past the Siena goalkeeper to tie the game at 8-8 with 4:23 remaining but Siena's Wolpert took a nice pass from Morrissey and scored with 3:35 left.
Wagner had the ball the majority of the final 3:35 but was unable to crack the Siena defense.
Siena freshman goalkeeper David Jalette (Orange, CT) made nine saves while Wagner's Chris Sohacki (Brant Beach, NJ) made ten saves for the Seahawks.
Wolpert finished with five goals while Walsh notched three for Siena to go along with Morrissey's tally.
Zulauf had a huge game for Wagner scoring three times while handing out three assists.
The Saints return home for their final two regular-season games. They will hit Siena Field this Tuesday as they face Hartford. Game-time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
