LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Lacrosse scored 10 unanswered goals over a 24-minute stretch to rally past Quinnipiac 18-12 in Hamden, Conn. With the win, the Saints claimed the program's sixth MAAC Regular Season Title in the past eight years.
Quinnipiac (5-7, 3-3) raced out to a 9-5 lead midway through the second quarter. But the Bobcats, which scored their first nine goals in less than 24 minutes, were held scoreless for the next 30 minutes as the Saints (8-4, 5-0) embarked on their remarkable run to both reclaim the lead and also put the game out of reach.
Ten different Saints scored and three - Adam Hall, Jon-Michael Tokar and Chris White - all netted their first collegiate goals. The nation's fourth leading scorer entering the week, Richie Hurley led the way with a game-high seven points on a season-high six goals.
Junior faceoff specialist Casey Dowd picked up 13 groundballs, breaking Mark Jenkins' '82 all-time program record of 318. Dowd, who entered the week ranking eighth nationally in groundballs per game, now has 321 and counting.
Dylan Webster and Ryan Keenan led Quinnipiac with two goals and two assists apiece. Matt Diehl also scored twice and added three points as did Connor Meth for the Bobcats which were plagued by 21 turnovers.
Capital Region bragging rights are on the line Tuesday when the Saints travel to crosstown rival UAlbany for a 7 p.m. faceoff at John Fallon Field. The game will be televised throughout New York on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel.
