Down 4-3 at halftime, the VMI lacrosse team (4-7, 4-3 MAAC) used a six-goal third quarter to defeat Siena (1-10, 1-6 MAAC) at an overcast and damp Patchin Field on Saturday afternoon. The Keydets were paced by a pair of sophomore midfielders: Erik Rohrmann (Ridgefield, Conn./ Ridgefield) and Gabe McCaig (Painted Post, N.Y./ Corning West) who combined for seven goals in the victory on senior day. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for VMI and a six-game streak in which the Keydets played in games decided by one goal.

The teams played an even (2-2) first quarter and the Saints won the second quarter (2-1) to take a 4-3 lead into the halftime break.

VMI then exploded for six goals in the third stanza, behind the strength of five different goal scorers to take a 9-5 lead at the end of the third quarter. Junior attackman Leo McInerney (Syracuse, N.Y./ Marcellus) scored two goals in the final 2:48 of the quarter to push the two-goal lead to four.

The fourth quarter saw both teams score three goals, with Rohrmann scoring two of his quartet of goals in the final 10 minutes of the game as VMI preserved the four-goal victory.
