A quick start by Colgate put Siena Men’s Lacrosse down 7-1 after just one quarter. The Raiders would hold on and defeat Siena 16-11 on Sunday in the first matchup for the two since 2002.
Sam Cleveland led Colgate (3-4) with four goals and two assists. Anthon Abbadessa dished out five assists to go along with one goal for the Raiders.
Both Mike Reilly and Jon Michael Tokar recorded hat tricks for the Saints (0-8). Reilly also dished out one assists and picked up three ground balls. Joe Arcarese led the Saints with four ground balls while he also recorded one goal.
Tokar opened up the scoring putting Siena up 1-0 early in the first quarter. Colgate then recorded seven unanswered goals to take a 7-1 lead going into the second quarter. The Saints were able to take advantage and score the next three goals as they trailed the Raiders 7-4. At the half, Colgate would hold onto a 9-5 lead.
Siena came out into the second half and outshot the Raiders 9-6 in the third quarter and 11-8 in the fourth quarter. Both the Saints and Colgate would score three goals a piece in the third stanza as the Raiders held onto a 12-8 lead. Siena scored three goals in the final stanza, but it would not be enough as Colgate recorded four goals for themselves. The Raiders would take the contest 16-11.
The Saints open MAAC play in West Long Branch, New Jersey at Monmouth on Saturday, Mar. 25. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
